Commission for Elderly Services
The Commission for Elderly Services advocates for and coordinates programs and services for Ansonia's older residents. The Commission is responsible for conducting all affairs of the Joseph A. Doyle Senior Center, including developing and submitting the Center's budget and employing staff in accordance with City personnel policies. It also studies issues affecting the elderly — including economic, housing, health, and recreational matters — and makes recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to improve programs and services.
The Commission consists of nine members serving three-year terms: three members age 55 or older, three from the general population, and three associated with health, education, housing, employment, charitable, or service organizations. All members serve without compensation. The Commission annually reports to the Board of Aldermen with an estimate of funds required for the ensuing year.

About the Commission
The Commission works to ensure older residents have equal access to all City resources, facilities, and programs, and encourages their full participation in community life. It coordinates with state, municipal, and private agencies to deliver effective services, develops and oversees all City-approved programs for the elderly, and ensures the effective operation of the Doyle Senior Center.
Members are appointed by the Mayor with approval of the Board of Aldermen. The Commission elects from among its members a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer annually.
