Conservation Commission
The Conservation Commission is responsible for the development, conservation, supervision, and regulation of Ansonia's natural resources, including water resources. The Commission researches land use, inventories natural resources, formulates watershed and drought management plans, and maintains an index of open areas — including marshlands, swamps, and wetlands — within the City's limits.
The Commission makes recommendations to zoning, planning, and inland wetlands agencies on proposed land use changes, may propose greenways plans for inclusion in the City's plan of conservation and development, and may acquire land and easements on behalf of the City with approval of the Board of Aldermen. It consists of seven members serving four-year terms, each of whom must be an elector of the City.

About the Commission
The Commission coordinates with unofficial bodies organized for similar conservation purposes, may advertise and distribute educational materials, and works with the Connecticut Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection on state and local conservation activities. It may also supervise and manage municipally-owned open space or park property when delegated that authority.
Members are appointed by the Mayor. The Commission elects its own Chairman and keeps records of all meetings and activities, submitting an annual report to the City. The Commission may receive gifts on behalf of the City for conservation purposes.
