Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning & Zoning Commission serves as both the planning commission and zoning commission for the City of Ansonia, holding all powers and duties conferred by Connecticut state law on both bodies. The Commission reviews and acts on land use applications, adopts and amends zoning regulations, and is required to update the City's Plan of Conservation and Development every five years.
The Commission consists of seven resident electors serving five-year staggered terms, nominated by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen. No more than four members may be from the same political party. Three alternate members are also appointed under the same requirements. The City Engineer serves as an ex officio, non-voting member. All members serve without compensation.

About the Commission
The Commission elects a Chair and Vice-Chair annually at its January organizational meeting. The Secretary provides written notice of all meetings to members, publishes required legal notices, and maintains all official records and correspondence.
No member may participate in a hearing or decision in which they have a direct or indirect personal or financial interest. Any such disqualification is recorded in the Commission's minutes, and an alternate member is designated to act in that member's place.
The Commission works with a Planning & Zoning Consultant and Zoning Enforcement Officer appointed by the Mayor with the Commission's concurrence.
